44.4% of national cultivated land, among which national water-saving irrigation project took
352 million mu, covering 40.65% of national farmland effective irrigated area.
In China, more than half cultivated land are not equipped with irrigation facilities and 60%
farmland effective irrigated area are still using the traditional irrigation way. High-efficiency water
saving irrigation technologies, sprinkling irrigation and drop irrigation included, however, only
take 16.48% of water-saving irrigation project and occupy 6.7% of effective irrigated area, and
there are much difference compared with developed countries.
The sprinkling irrigation and drop irrigation area will increase 115 million mu if China’s sprinkling
irrigation and drop irrigation area lift from 6.7% to 20%. Counted by 700 yuan per mu, the
initiative investment of drop irrigation project will reach 80.5 billion yuan, and every year 15
billion yuan will cost for replacing drop irrigation zone.
Chinese government pays much attention to the application of water-saving technology in
agriculture and puts great efforts on policy making and fund supporting .Chinese government
pours into massive funds to construct water-saving project and water-saving improvement
project in irrigation district every year. According to the eleventh five year plan of water
resource development, the government is going to increase 150 million mu water-saving
irrigation area and 30 million mu net effective irrigation area , investment budget reaching 148
billion yuan .
